Therapy

Art Therapy is a creative therapy that allows us to tap into our unconsciousness with the skill of the art therapist who links art and psychology to create this unique and most ancient form of transformation. A work of art can help return the missing portions of our characters to us.

Art Therapy allows us to process our inner world with the help of art making. This is a modality that uses the nonverbal language of art for personal growth. The great part about art therapy is the unconscious only wants what is good for you in the creative process.

Many of my clients express concern that they have no experience of art making. Art therapy isn’t necessarily about creating ‘great art’. I will guide you in a gentle way that encourages creativity at all levels and is completely free of judgement. By welcoming art making into the therapeutic relationship my clients are be able to express their inner and outer worlds more freely. The art making becomes an amazing opportunity for them to find direction and resolution for their lives in a very short period of time.

The benefits of art therapy are life long and also achievable in a short period of time compared to other therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. However, Narrative therapy is also used in the art therapy process to provide a great foundation for anyone seeking health and wellbeing.

As an art therapist I specialise in helping clients with grief and loss, palliative care and end of life care. I also have extensive experience in working with people with disabilities and their grief and loss.

I look forward to working alongside you, helping, and guiding your creativity for your well-being.

Kind words

“Art therapy has been something that I have never thought of proceeding with until I met Katherine. She has helped me see my inner self and what I truly was thinking. Ever since I did art therapy with her, during my own moments of stress, I would apply the skills learnt during our time together which has helped me greatly in an artistic but also therapeutic manner. I don’t know how to draw and this type of therapy does not require for you to know how to. It is about where your hands lead your thoughts, pretty interesting! I highly recommend having a few sessions with Katherine to find out what you’re really thinking!”

Tracy

“Katharine ran a retreat for us, looking at ‘Spirituality and the Arts’. On this ecumenical retreat, Katharine provided insightful and fun activities for the whole group which provided us with the much needed time for reflection and renewal. Katharine was friendly, pastoral and helpful with all who attended and we can’t wait to invite her back again to learn from and engage with such a talented artist and spiritual director.”
