About Kate

Retreats

A retreat is essentially time away from our everyday lives. It is a time where you can give yourself permission to go away and reflect on your life or just simply have a break from the usual Monday to Friday routines.

The retreats I lead are a combination of silence, prayer and creativity in all forms. The retreats I facilitate are centered around hospitality where you can come and be fed on all levels, the physical, emotional and spiritual parts of your being. By welcoming the silence and contemplation of a retreat we enable our spirits to catch up with our bodies and our lives.

Retreats vary from day retreats to whole weekend retreats. As with other disciplines that I offer, transformation happens in the space when you give yourself fully or give yourself permission to be on a retreat and to the time and processes offered during your retreat.

There will be others there on the retreat with you, however your individual time of processing is key while there. This allows things to surface for you consciously or unconsciously.

As a spiritual director, I am able to hold space for you to process anything that appears and I can add the bonus of creativity into this space as an art therapist. I welcome you to come along to one of my retreats and be transformed while having fun in the process.

Kind words

“Shalom has had a very busy month of hosting various groups so it was lovely to finish off a busy time with this gentle, quiet retreat. A big thank you is in order to our generous and skilled facilitator, Kate Thornley who led these lucky women throughout this weekend about living in the present. Such a lovely reflective weekend was gratefully received, …where prayers became art and art made connections within and became prayer, with others and with God.”

“Katharine ran a retreat for us, looking at ‘Spirituality and the Arts’. On this ecumenical retreat, Katharine provided insightful and fun activities for the whole group which provided us with the much needed time for reflection and renewal. Katharine was friendly, pastoral and helpful with all who attended and we can’t wait to invite her back again to learn from and engage with such a talented artist and spiritual director”
