The daily examen has been around for centuries, actually it was developed in the 15th Century by St Ignatius of Loyola. It sounds quite profound and if we use this practice in our daily life, insights, ah ha moments do emerge therefore it is a spiritual practice that connects you to your God but also to your own soul.
The daily examen can be seen as a prayerful reflection on the events of the day, your day. The purpose of this practice is to detect God’s presence and discern God’s direction for us in our lives.
The method as follows can be used at the end of the day and I would encourage you to journal your thoughts, feelings and insights.
- Become aware of God’s presence.
- Review the day with gratitude.
- Pay attention to your emotions.
- Choose one feature of the day and pray from it.
- Look forward to tomorrow.
