About Kate

Welcoming Winter

In winter the heartbeat of the land slows down. In the city of Sydney, we notice the winter by the shorter days and cooler air as we wake in the morning. It is often a time when we feel tired and want to become a bit of a recluse. As the days of light get shorter, we can change our pace of life to be more still in our days and savour/enjoy the slower pace of our lives. We can learn by nature, as nature always welcomes each season of the year. The lessening of light and increase of darkness are necessary ingredients for the earth’s nourishment. As they enable the fallow process to happen (J.Rupp,2005).

Now is the season for a bit of time for yourself and at the same time restoring your spirit, as your spirit needs rest, silence and solitude. When we have these quiet times in our season of winter, we can, like nature, prepare for the second half of the year, Spring and Summer.

Winter Blessing

Blessed are you winter,
you teach us valuable lessons
about waiting in darkness
with hope and trust.
